Birthplace of Svetozar Corovic Print


The house where Svetozar Ćorović was born, the most important Herzegovina novelist who often wrote of life in this region and in Mostar itself in his books, is at 178, Maršala Tita Street, close to the Muyaga Komadina Bridge (or Luka Bridge). It was built in 1874 in an unusual neo-Renaissance style.

Here, the famous Aleksa Santic from Mostar, one of the country’s greatest poets, lived the last years of his life.The building has a room dedicated to his memory with a library containing his precious manuscripts. Mostar also recollects this famous writer by holding poetry reading evenings, the Šantićeve Večeri Poezije, an event much loved by the citizens of Mostar and which has taken place every year for the past twentythree years.
